World Tourism Day is celebrated this year under the theme 'Tourism and Biodiversity'.

Official celebrations is hosted by China on 27 September, with many other events taking place around the world.

As one of the most important components of the 2010 World Tourism Day Celebrations, the grand opening ceremony of the 2010 Guangdong International Tourism and Culture Festival is held on the same day in Zengcheng Square in Guangzhou, Guangdong province.

Within the framework of the United Nations International Year of Biodiversity, this year’s World Tourism Day theme will raise awareness of the close relationship between tourism development, biodiversity conservation and poverty reduction. Coincidently, the stage is outfitted as a jungle, the ceremony attended by high-profile State and provincial officials as well as those with the World Tourism Organization, is meant inspire renewed respect for nature. Over 700 units of moving heads from FINE ART are installed in 7 groups separately around the corners of stage, by fulfilling the perfect performances and incredible lighting effects, variety of light models Fine2500/2000 spot & wash, Fine1500 spot & wash, Fine2400 wash and the newest innovative FineII beam create a fabulous and dreamlike atmosphere on the stage, the huge lavish green background in different scenes feature friendly and cultural environment for the biodiversity to match the theme Nature and Life, with colorful highly choreographed visual extravaganza, is delivering full of green & fresh tour experiences to ten of thousands audiences throughout the show.

“The effect was exciting!” the veteran lighting designer Mr. Sha Xiao Lan commented who was ever the general lighting designer for Olympic Game 2008 and World Expo 2010: “ the lights from Fine Art is outstanding, everything was live, especially the newest FineII beam gave us the opportunity to create a lot of different effects and movements, so the real stage was not only where the artist were performing, but the stage was all the venue, and the audience was also part of it. We always feel more and more surprises and spirits by utilizing FineArt lights.”

Its purpose is to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value. The event seeks to address global challenges outlined in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and to highlight the contribution the tourism industry can make in reaching these goals.
